Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) was established in the school in 1996. Essentially the programme focuses on the study of Leaving Certificate subjects, with an added vocational dimension. LCVP students take a minimum of five Leaving Certificate subjects.

In addition to this they undertake the study of three Link Modules:

Preparation for work

Work Experience

Enterprise Education

Together, these three modules are recognised as one complete subject and are assessed in sixth year by means of a written examination. The purpose of the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme is to foster in young people a spirit of enterprise, to allow them to develop technological skills and to afford them an experience of the world of work.

Over a two year period, students get involved in a variety of activities, including the setting up of their own mini-enterprises. They have access to Information Technology. They also partake in a work placement programme and visit local businesses.

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme has been made all the more attractive in recent years owing to it's recognition by Institutes of Technology and Universities for a wide variety of diploma and degree courses.
