Health Week was held in St. Paul’s Community College from Monday 6th February to Friday 10th February. The event was a whole school approach to student health and well-being facilitated by the Care Team staff in the school. On Monday we had the First Year Fruit and Veg Survey in the morning and in the afternoon our 6th Year students participated in Yoga class. Transition Year students had a session from Barry Lambe on Fitness. On Wednesday students took part in a Cyclathon with Mr O’Grady and managed to cycle 30 miles during the course of the day. Thanks to Spokes for providing the stationary bike. About 20 students took part in a 2 mile jog at lunchtime on Wednesday with Mr Lohan and Ms Ní Chuirrín followed by a walk with Mr Kelly for the Operation Transformation programme. On Tuesday students pitted their skills against our Deputy Principal, Mr Keane, when he stood in goal with his hurley to save penalties from our students keen on getting one in on him! Well done to Mr Keane he saved nearly all the penalties being an accomplished hurler with De La Salle!
On Friday morning we had a cooking competition for students under the auspices of our invited Master Chef. The Marie Keating Foundation gave a talk to boys and girls in the afternoon on Friday. Everyday just before small break Ms Ní Chuirrín went “DJ” on the intercom to conduct “Drop Everything and Move” for 2/3 minutes of the last class before small break while she played some upbeat music. Our students participated in a chess challenge on Wednesday against De La Salle NS in which we were narrowly defeated but thanks to Hilary in the library for providing a very appropriate and relaxing environment for the chess games. On Wednesday our third year classes had a Mannequin Challenge and you can see the results in the video on the News and Photos section of this school website.
Thanks to the Care Team and in particular Ms Whelan for coordinating much of the Health Week activities. Below are some photos taken during the week.
