Diary of 2 Boxers

When I was nearly 16 years old I started boxing in St Pauls School and it was the best decision I ever made. I only wish I started earlier, when I first started boxing I was nervous but got the hang of it with the help of my trainer Seamus Cowman. I was so tired after training, I will never forget it but couldn’t wait to go back and do it again every Wednesday. While I was boxing in the school Billy Walsh came to visit it was a privilege to meet him he gave me and others students who boxed every Wednesday tips on technique and footwork. My trainer Seamus Cowman decided to organise a spar in the St Pauls boxing club where the first years could watch. I was excited but nervous at the same time as this was going to be my first spar in front of people. I was going to spar against Star Mc Donagh which made me more nervous as she had a lot more experience in boxing than me. I got on well in my first spar and couldn’t wait to step back in the ring again.

I then joined St Paul’s boxing club. Because of this I was rewarded with boxing gloves and hand wraps by Brian O Neill from the Waterford Sports partnership and for this I am very grateful. I now train 3 days per week and as a result my fitness and my eating habits have improved a lot. I love Boxing and would recommend it to anyone.

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me with Boxing in the school especially to Brian O Neill and my trainer Seamus Cowman.
